Plastic Soldier Company 15mm Panzer IV. The model is very nice and I love the fact that you get 5 models in the box. It went together really well, though there was some mould lines that needed cleaning up on the tracks to get them to sit properly.

There are 5 of these and am looking to sell them, so if you are interested let me know :)

A few updates to my 15mm US moderns...been quite bust recently with uni work that haven't had the time to do any painting at all...but have recently just got a hell of a lot of coursework out of the way and fancied a bit of light relief until other deadlines start creeping up on me so I thought I'd crack on with these guys...

Just to fill you in on where all the bits have come from:
- Humvees from Irish Serb, excellent models and good price (though I believe Peter Pig do some now as well, something that they were lacking when I was shopping)
- Troops and vehicle crews from Peter Pig (the crews are converted)
- Aircraft are 1/144 scale plastic kits bought on-line

Play Testing

Me and my dad were play testing the rule set we are going to bring out within the next few months, just thought we'd see how it looks so far and iron out any of the creases...

So the game was for the US player (me) to advance on the ville Plau Qu, capture and hold...I started off with a platoon sized force with my asset points buying me an M48 tank and a Huey Hog :)

The first few turns were uneventful for the US troops...and they managed to get right up to the ville with no contact...

1st squad attempting to clear a building...but failing to pull the pin out of the grenade before thrown...doh!

The rest of the buildings in the ville were cleared with grenades and knocking out enemy entry points...also the M48 destroyed another building containing an enemy entry point...

Game outcome: US Victory, they managed to hold the ville and repel the oncoming VC with the loss of 3 men and a helicopter

The rules are definitely coming together, a few small tweeks needed...and tanks are very deadly :D

And for the fun of it we had a little play...just something different...a tank on tank battle...
M48 vs T55
Outcome: M48 is more likely to win unless the T55 can ambush the M48 from the side or rear...
T-55 taking aim...hit...but the shell bounces off the front armour...

and KA-BOOM...

Having brought loads of random figures when I was younger, for the fun of it, I have lots of very random part made or shoddily made figures and kits strewn about my room at home. These figures and models vary in scale and manufacturer. When I was back home at Christmas I found this chap and his comrades in a draw and thought that these would be good to paint up, my thought process then continued and I settled on the best looking (the one that was best put together - damn my younger self). So I retrieved this guy and brought him back to uni where he has been sitting for months unpainted...until now...

Under coat of grey, thought was best for all the light colours I was going to paint this guy with...

Base coat of Vallejo Sand Yellow (916) on all desert BDU parts (trousers, shirt sleeves and hat)...

Boots painted with a random sandy type colour which looks alright and the body armour and webbing given a watered down paint/base coat of Vallejo US Dark Green (893)...

The desert BDU was then given a wash of GW Gryphonne Sepia and then dry brushed with a light sand colour...

On top of the base coat was added large splodges of Vallejo Deck Tan (986)...

...which was followed by small splodges (bordering the Deck Tan splodges) of Vallejo Saddle Brown (940)...

The desert BDUs were then given a light wash with GW Gryphonne Sepia and another light dry brush with the same colour as used the base coat...the body armour and webbing was given another coat of US Dark Green, once dry was then given a wash of GW Badab Black, then waiting for that to dry before giving the body armour and webbing a light dry brush of US Dark Green mixed with Vallejo Khaki (988)...also at this stage the NVGs (Night Vision Goggles) were painted black with the straps painted US Dark Green...

Next the woodland camo on the body armour...first some large splodges of Vallejo Saddle Brown (940)...

...followed by some slightly smaller splodges of black (most blacks are very similar, use what you've got)...

...followed by smaller splodges still of Vallejo Khaki (988)...

The woodland camo was edited a little at this stage as there were a few splodges that didn't look quite right...is always helpful to have some reference photos for camo so you can try and copy...this is what I did and the camo still looked shocking, but is passable :P

The body armour and webbing was given a light drybrush with the US Dark Green and Khaki mix...

Fleshy parts were painted and given a wash with GW Ogryn Flesh, small details were also painted (watch)...

M16 base coated...

Highlights applied on the flesh, watch strap and face followed by another Flesh wash...PAINTING DONE!!!

The base was painted with undiluted PVA and left to stand in some sand while I had dinner...Then once relatively dry some watered down Vallejo Sand Yellow (916) was applied onto the sand until covered...I still need to finish the base but the process will be as follows: drybrush with Vallejo Pale Sand (837), once dry apply small splodges of PVA and apply some small amounts of suitable coloured static grass (I'll upload some pics of this once I've done it)...

Advancing with M16...

The M16 was given a drybrush of GW Boltgun Metal...

I found this website useful when trying to follow other people's painting guides (Color Match). To use select from the drop down menu's at the top the original paint company/type (left drop down menu) and your paint company/type (right drop down menu). Then click submit query and it gives you a list of paints to the equivalent...is awesome...with the lists, the right hand side colours will have some really long numbers under them this indicates how close they are to the original colour, I think less than 1 is good...hope this helps :)

T-55 additions

Just a few changes to the T-55 before I varnished it...

Using Tamiya Weathering Master pastels I added 'soot' around the exhaust...

...and around the gun muzzle
I also decided to make the tracks look a little less rubbery and gave them a drybrush of Boltgun Metal followed by another Weathering pastel (mud)...

Number 386 is now ready for battle!!!

T-55

Saw this on ebay recently and thought it would make a nice addition as an objective or a reinforcement for the Vietnam stuff me and my dad are putting together...and this morning it came through the post :D
The following two pictures are as it came straight out of the package...

These following pictures are what it looks like now, a wash of GW Devlan Mud and a little bit of dry brushing and it's about ready for some matte varnish...

SAS Raid

Not so picture heavy this time...me and my dad were getting really into this game as we were trying out another section of the rules...the cautious movement and silent strike :D

Mission Objective: To infiltrate axis air strip and take out the planes and cause as much disruption as possible...
The SAS ground troops had assests of 2 Jeeps, 1 30cwt Chevy and 1 Rolls Royce armoured car (might not have been used by the SAS but we had some asset points left over and we wanted the Rolls)
Though the going was slow through the first half of the game (due to the cautious moving which reduces the distance you can move) didn't mean there was any less excitement...my dad (with one squad) almost alerted the sentries and had an enemy officer swanning around...and me (with the other squad) thought I had set off a mine but it didn't go off so we decided it to be an upturned enamel mug buried in the ground (like the scene from Ice Cold in Alex)...
All was going rather well, my squad cleared the distance to two enemy sentries and took them out without them raising the alarm...cold steel in the night...and my dad managed to get to the edge of the cam-netted Me-109s...
Then it started to go down hill...I started to advance my squad towards the town and enemy barracks with the notion to plant a few bombs and mines then clear out undetected and watch everything go up...but as I was advancing down the hill an enemy squad saw me and opened fire with an MG34...luckily it being night he only caused some minor flesh wounds on my troopers who decided that it was probably best to retire and provide support for the other squad who were starting to lay the bombs in/on the planes...
The enemy started to chase after my squad but luckily took their time which allowed mine and my dad's squad to plant all the bombs on the planes and also on a building...all the bombs went off and the Hun came over the ridge and started to open fire on us...but the following turn saw the vehicles jump over a ridge and charge towards the Jerries with twin Vickers Ks laying down a devastating field of fire causing them to retire which gave the SAS an opportunity to jump into the vehicles and race out of harms way for tea and medals :)
This was a great game and really enjoyable...really want to try this type of game again at some point...maybe with more vehicles :D

'Nam Game

Some pictures of a game me and my dad did...still play testing the new rules for Parkfield Miniatures...this one is in the 'Nam

Mission objective: to investigate possible enemy bunker system...

Turn 1: The US move in to the enemies AO mounted in M113s...

Turn 2: The rear M113 activates first and cannot squeeze past the lead vehicle so the troops within disembark...

Turn 2 continued: the lead M113 advances towards the hooch and the infantry disembark and spread out...
Turn 3: US fire team moves up from their M113...the Platoon command vehicle is seen in the background holding back...
...another US fireteam moves towards the river to head up the bank towards the hooch...

Turn 4: The VC spring out of hiding and immediately take casualties from the lead M113 in over-watch...the VC retaliates with small arms fire and an RPG...
...the US fireteam on the road takes minor casualties and the RPG misses its target of the lead M113...phew!!!
...the second M113 advances up to the T-junction and waits for the fireteam on the road to move out of the way...

Turn 5: An enemy ambush waits in the undergrowth...
...jumping out at a passing US fireteam and only managing to cause minor casulties...the US fireteam returns fire and with an accurate placing of a 40mm grenade from a blooper take out most of the enemy ambush section, the rest withdraw in to the jungle with their fallen comrades to fight another day...
...a couple of grenades take care of the remaining occupants of the hooch and the grunts advance and torch the building...

Turn 6: The Us advance cautiously towards the 'bunker' with one thought...to destroy it...

...but as the US advance VC open fire from the bunker causing minor casualties...
...from a safe distance a squad leader commands the blooper gunner to open fire on the bunker...a direct hit...but the French obviously knew how to make bunkers as it still stands...
Turn 7: The blooper gunner gets another chance to fire, this time before anyone else...another direct hit and...KA-BOOM!!!
...bunker taken care of...no signs of Charlie left on the board...
time for a tactical withdrawal back to base camp...

...but will they make it???

Game Debrief: While me and my dad are still working on this set of rules for 'modern' gaming we keep coming up with new things we want to incorporate and trying to re-jig some of the existing rules...this game did seem a bit one sided and I think that went down to luck of the dice...unfortunately as my dad was doing a little bit of fiddling and tweeking of the rules as we played trying out some different ideas I fear this may have altered the out come...but what the heck was a good enjoyable game and I can't wait for these rules to be completed and on sale :)

I bought a pack of Airfix multipose USMC a while ago and fairly recently thought I'd get a couple of them painted. I'm pleased with the results. These are the first figures I used GW washes on and since then I use them where and when possible.

French Bunker Indo China

I wanted to contribute to my dad's Vietnam range, and thought about doing a bunker as a bit of scenery/objective marker. After a little bit of thought and research I thought that an old French bunker would look quite good on the board.
These bunkers where built during the French occupation of Indo-China after the Second World War, they were used as security with the next one being quite a distance away. They were very poor in the defence of occupied Indo-China as the Viet Minh could sneak up under the cover of darkness and wipe out a bunker with ease. The French wouldn't be able to send any help until daylight and then maybe not straight away the day after...the Americans learned from this and used fixed defensive positions that could be self sufficient if came under attack and could sometimes be within fire support range of neighbouring camps...

After dry brushing the bunker (from Vallejo German Grey to Vallejo Medium Sea Grey) I attached some aquarium plants with hot glue (best way to attach this plant stuff)

After all the glue was set (doesn't take too long) I applied PVA to the base and to some areas on the roofs and piled on sand. Once dry gave a coat of Vallejo US Field Drab and drybrushed with GW Bleached Bone. Once that was dry more PVA was applied in patches and static grass (of different colours) was sprinkled on. After waiting for that to dry I applied splodges of contact adhesive and attached some clump foliage to the base and roof...once I get a bit of time after all the festivities I might find time to attach some grass tufts :)

The figures are Parkfield Miniatures and the base is from last years Christmas tree...always very useful for little things like this

My dad (who is the man behind all the lovely sculpts at Parkfield Miniatures) has recently completed and cast off a few M113s for Parkfield's Vietnam range. There are 2 variants avaliable; the M113A1 and the M113 ACAV. Being part of Parkfield Miniatures myself and sharing the love of wargaming it's always great to receive a few little gifts to 'try out' the figures. Here is one such 'try out' an M113 ACAV.

Above is the basic kit. It contains everything needed to make the M113A1...not entirely sure if the side skirts come in the basic pack or not
These are the ACAV additions to the basic pack...an extra GI to stand in the rear compartment manning one of the M60s, 2 M60s with shields and armour for the commanders cupola
Some stowage that Parkfield will be selling separately...great for personalising the M113s
Some weapons I scrounged from my dad's spare bits bag...2x M16s, 1x M79, 3x LAWs and 2x Canteens...

Just a few bits I've collected and assembled recently...some rather nice Hummers from Irish Serb and some aircraft from hobby stores. The aircraft bases are GW 60mm round bases with some plastic tubing stuck through the middle, a small 'sleeve' of plastic tubing was attached to the underside of the aircraft so that they stay atop the stands.

Paints (mostly Vallejo Model Colour) used:
ACU - 886 Green Grey; 830 German Field Grey WW2; 821 German Camo Beige
3 Tone Desert Cam- 837 Pale Sand; 986 Deck Tan; 940 Saddle Brown
Woodland BDU Cam - 893 US Dark Green; Black (I used GW Chaos Black); 940 Saddle Brown; 988 Khaki

Digi Cam:
Give the uniform a base coat of Green Grey. Once dry apply fair sized splodges of German Field Grey, followed by smaller splodges of German Camo Beige. Once it is all dry apply small dots of contrasting colours over the uniform (so Beige over Green Grey and Field Grey & Field Grey over Beige etc)

3 Tone Desert Cam:
Apply a base coat of Pale Sand (you might need two coats of this). Once dry apply long splodges across the uniform, then apply small lines of Saddle Brown along one edge of each of the splodges

Woodland BDU:
Base the uniform with US Dark Green. Once dry apply random splodges in Black then Saddle Brown then finally Khaki. Make sure you leave small patches of Green showing through

(one small note: the 3 tone and the woodland BDU should work on most scales, but I haven't tried the ACU Digital technique on anything but 15mm figures)

In May I turned 21. As a belated present a family friend thought that I should receive a rather memorable present...needless to say once I found out I was gonna be driving a 'tank' I was rather excited...here are a few photos and a compilation video I put together from some footage my dad took...

The vehicle I drove was a converted FV432/30. The FV432/30 is a standard FV432 APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) that was fitted with a turret lifted from the Fox armoured car CVRW (Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance Wheeled) and was used during the Cold War...
The FV432/30 Infantry Support Vehicle/CVRT (Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance Tracked) had had the RARDEN cannon removed (along with alot of the interior turret bits and pieces, so it was quite roomy in there) and in it's place a custom 'air cannon' was installed. The big cylinders on the rear of the turret contained compressed air which propel 40mm(!) 'paintballs' down the barrel at the target...all good fun :D
The 'Tank Battle Experiance' that the company do is (with a crew of 3) you each get a lap of the track (half with the hatch open and half with it closed), then you do some target practice rotating around the 2 positions within the turret...a small breather in the 'ops room' (reception/brew station) and quick talk on tactics and position choosing (I opted for driver straight away)...then back out into the vehicle, baton down the hatches and take position for the battle against an 'enemy tank'...both 'tanks' get 12 paintballs and the most hits win...my 'Ellie May' was against the enemy 'Sally' and the score was 11 - 6 to us :D VICTORY!
Once the experience is over (after about 2hrs for the whole battle experiance) then you have a quick debrief, look over the pics taken by the on field photographer and spend some money :P gotta wait for my pics to come through the post then might upload some more :)

I have to say out of the 3 positions in the vehicle that they offered with the 'Tank Battle Experience' (driving, aiming and loading/firing) the driving was by far the best...nothing quite beats driving through inches of mud with your visibility restricted so that you can't see anything apart from a small letter box view to the front :D

I hope to find a model of this vehicle at some point in the near future...whether I paint it up like 'Ellie May' I don't know, but I do now like this vehicle...

Ghillie Suits

Recently I have found some of my old Warhammer 40,000 Catachan models (Games Workshop) and thought that a re-paint would do them good, haven't got too far yet but here are two snipers that I have converted...

The idea behind these models was from a Games Workshop article I read on this type of conversion, and they got thier idea from modern military Ghillie Suits.
I first cut and stuck some wire mesh on to the figures, then undercoated with black. With Dark Angels Green (GW) I based the models. Then a light green and brown were added onto the base colour in random patches. This was then inked with brown. After the models had been left to dry I dry brushed them with a lighter green than used for the camo patches.
Once the model had dried I applied patches of PVA and dipped the models into some Green Flock, once that had dried I applied a bit of PVA arund the Flock and dipped the model into some Static Grass.
The base on the kneeling sniper was first painted with PVA then dipped into sand. Once dry I painted it with a watered down earthy colour (I used GW Graveyard Earth). Once that was dry a light drybrush with GW Bleached Bone. Then, in patches, I applied some PVA and dipped the base into Static Grass.

Well, it's been a long time since I last posted anything on here, so here is the next instalment...

I have recently purchased some Valiant Miniature figures (link). I got the American GIs and the Germans in Normandy, some very nice figures. Once I've got enough painted up will try them out with a set of rules that my dad put together a little while ago.
Also for the Valiant Miniatures I had a pair of Pzr III Ausf. J by Italeri which I based and then painted up. To equal the forces out I purchased a set of Håt Armourfast Sherman M4A3 (link), one of which I converted into a Sherman ARV.

First post here and not alot to discuss, apart from I'm back at uni and getting ready to fall asleep...hope to have some pictures up of current projects asap, these will most likely be of the 1989 Nissan Micra that myself and 3 others bought for a grand total of £70, though the work done on it so far has definitely gone over the price of the car.
